14. Truman Show

Truman Show is a great movie to reflect the side and also positive effects of reality shows. In the movie it's effect is both told in a negative and positive way. The difference about the Truman Show is, Truman doesn't know that he is in a reality show and when he finds out, he definetly wants to go out. About the effects of reality shows, the movie criticises reality shows by showing also the reactions of the audience. We can easily see in this movie that for almost 30 or 40 years people around the world know Truman and share his feelings immediatly because the show is on 24/7. In contrast to general reality shows, we see Truman Show as a programm for stalking Truman because accept Truman everybody know their dialogues and their roles, however the main character is Truman. However we can see that eventhough the audience have fun by watching Truman, they want to let Truman free to go. After watching Truman Show I can definetly say that there isn't just one way to judge or criticise reality shows. In addition these shows have both negative and positive sides. You can't just judge all these kinds of shows in a one.

13. The Full Monty

The full monty is a comedy film, which was directed by Peter Cattaneo, however also touches some important subjects such as, unemployment, children custody and in a part says assertive ideas about gender issue. Besides the unemployment and children custody, I want to interprete the movie according to, how they handle the women and men role. Against most of the movies, here we see that actually men and women changed their roles. Mostly we all have the idea that women are the usually, who supposed to be stripping because they have difficulties to find a job or trying to take their childrens custody. I think the reason of this general idea is that, from the very beginning mens are the working ones and also responsible to earn money and take care of their family. However in this movie we see men in a very miserable situation, even they steal or dance. I don't think that dancing is a miserable way of earning money, actually of course it's not the great thing but when we people have no choice it's acceptable. However in the movie the 6 unemployed men see themselves in an ashamed situation and embarressed of their outlooking. The interesting part is men usually criticise women according to their physical appearence and now their turn is on to be judged. Although it's a comedy film, it also gives some alternative ideas about gender issue. The concern of 6 unemployed men about being extinct or their outlooking is reflected in a very interesting way. You absolutely should see this movie.

12. Presentation

Today we had our presentation about a movie, which is called The Full Monty. We tried in class to explain our ideeas in a clear way and tried to tell some interesting points related to the movie. Unfortunately we didn't have much option to make the slide shows in a fun way however we give it a shot and did the best we can do. I hope that everyone and Sonya had a good time when they were listening. After our presentation we discussed with Ali and Metin and we all have some concerns about our presentation. Eventhough we tried to explain and told the important subjects of the film, hope you all understant what we were trying to point out.
