11.Being marked

Unfortunetly for years women have the obligation of being soigne. Otherwise even women criticize each other including men. Lets assume that you go outside without clothing elaborate, probably you'll be marked as ragged, in other situation you would be marked as being too attractive. It seems that women have no way out but being marked. The reason of being marked may be relate to the position of women in the society in all cultures. In contrast to all feminist speech, even today women have not enough freedom to wear what they want. Ofcourse they have, however they have to accept being marked. It is really necessary to question why women have to be elaborate but men don't. Unfortunatly media also stir up this situation with commercials. Represent women as an object with parfume bottles is also a way of marking women. However men have no situation like this unless dressing in a very exaggerated way. When a men wear a jean and a violet sweater it doesn't occur a problem, however when women do that, they are being marked as clothing too attractive or too colourful or too elaborate. In every situation women are marked for something. The question is, do women have borned marked or society and media bring the concept 'marked women'. It really seems imposible for women to being unmarked because we had never been unmarked.

10. Practise Presentation

Today we had our practise presentation and obviously I have to admit that I was nervous in the begginning of my part of the presentation. However then as I continue to talk I became more relaxed and tried to explain my opinions in a brief way

In addition I agree to most comments. Especially to talk louder advice might be neccessary for me.
Apart from that I think these presentations gave us a good opportunity to criticize ourselves and see our negative sides. Also it is a good way of to coordinate before the real presentation

9. TV: The Plug in Drug

As we present this article text in class today, I don't see any necessity to resummarize the text. However I want add here my interpretations. Actually Marie Winn explained in her text idol family image in a very exaggerated way. She claims that TV bring isolation, deteriorate the family rituals and harm relationship. However as we also mentioned in the class today watching TV is also a social activity. Instead of breaking the family bonds, it brings them together with sharing emotions. When you think you probably understand what I meant by saying emotions. Lets assume that you are watching the news, and learned that, a country far far away from your homeland has a natural disaster problem. Don't you just feel sad about them, you develop empathy and understand people's feelings although you don't know them. In contrast to Marie Winn's arguement TV has ofcourse positive effects, which you can not easily reject. In addition TV do not make a drug effect to people, if you observe today's life conditions in detail, you can easily see that TV has a role of bringing the outer social life to home with series, reality shows or with quiz shows. Now a days people usually do have the neither time nor strenght to go out and socialize in weekdays because of work. As a solution TV help them to relax or spend time with their family without getting more tired.

8.Being a women in a media world

Yesterday I read an article about women role in media and how the media present women. The author also proved herself with statistics and in this article it can be easily realized that women issue is not only our cultural problem. Apart from other cultures, usually female invisibility comes from male dominance and the will of mens macho behaviour style. In addition, some part of the country religion also has the control by limiting the shows or with censorship. When I read this article I realized an interesting point, that author gives statistic about. According to this statistic, american culture has 51% women of U.S. population, however media represent only 35% women characters. Isn't it strange that women mostly find place with their outlooking in media. Unfortunately media represent women figure in a stereotyped way for years maybe just with including little changes, such as more thinner bodies, more sexy clothes. It is also interesting that although sexism is not a new notion, media is the only one who represent this concept in every turn.

7. Self-realization

Few days ago an interesting short story was presented in class called 'A man who was almost a man'. The author criticized in his story a boy, who was seventeen and had tried to prove himself to society with buying a gun. Unfortunately gun has been symbolized for 'real man' for years. Actually seeing only one cause don't help under today's conditions. Forinstance media is as guilty as adolescence, who is trying to prove themselves at every turn. Especially in our country media may sometimes publish -so called- reflecting social live series, which may lead adolescences to have wrong attitude towards their surroundings, such as being rebellious or having gun in contrast to their age to prove that they also have rights to talk or showing evidence of commitment to society with a symbol or to prove that they are not invisible. In this situation media is the one who actually help them by showing gun carrying-macho behaving guys. Being a men obsession isn't a new thing, the period betweed manhood and adolescence is probably the tough period for boys not because they are more vulnerable than girls it is because that, media create pressure on them by showing -so called- man symbols.

6. Tough Guise

The narrator tells in this video about the men role in society and how the media represent men and violence together. Unfortunately beginning with early ages boys have the obigation of being tough in society in other words front of people. As the teller mentioned it out, otherwise they might be called as 'sissy' or words similar to this nick names. In addition when the commercials or movies are looked, the increasing violence and power show can be easily seen. In the video some statistics had given about the increasing power show. Rather than past few years now the male role is imaged with muscles and maco behaviours and in addition female role also has been replacing. Now a days female images usually represent the sexism. He also mentioned an important point about violence news by saying that; althoug most crimes and violence has been done by male, media indicate male as invisible character. However the irony is although people usually do not pay attention when men engage in violence, when a women do this people usually get shocked and all the newspapers and also TV news feel the obligation of remarking the gender. As a good point this tough guise situation must be observed since males were boys. Unfortunately this tough guise syndrome is the result of media, by representing male roles in strict boundaries, such as strength, power, having the control and also the way families raise their child under media effects.

5.Killing us softly 3

The narrator criticises in this video about the women abuse in commercials and female role appearence. She mentioned in the video that advertisements are the foundation of mass media to sell products, values and importantly to sell concepts such as love, sexuality and romance. Unfortunately commercials mostly tell us who we are and further more who we should be, which usually put pressure on the viewer. In addition show us the ideal women beauty with no poor and no scar woman faces. It can be easily seen that all these commercials is usually about women and the ideal women figure, however the sad part is that all these women figures basically based on sexuality, which may be named also as an women labour. An an example some parfum bottles imaged with women body, which may be an evidence of women use. The narrator summarize this situation in this video by saying that women image turn into objects. She also importaned about the commercial rate in american culture by gaving a statistic about commercials. According to this statistic commercial had risen 15 million to 180 million in about 20 years. This result show us that how commercials have effect on people. Apart from commercial rates, when the women figure is observed in detail, it can be seen that women has a role with her body contrast to man. Women usually feel themselves under pressure by the obligation of changing their body. The narrator also pointed out an ironic point that, women have to change their appearence to keep their husbands under control for not to divorce. However the ironic part is, in contrast to ideal women figure, women without plastic surgery or with little weight women is the predominance in most cultures.
